Performing Arts Exchange Project for the Next Generation

『劇場は命薬（ぬちぐすい）』平和と共生を紡ぐ次世代の国際アーティストたち

本事業は、1970年の大阪万国博覧会が掲げた理念「人類の進歩と調和」を現代に継承し、世界各国の次代を担う若手アーティスト（ネクストジェネレーション）を沖縄に招聘し、演劇を通して、国際相互理解の促進および平和的共生の可能性を探究する国際文化交流事業です。

現代社会において、対立・紛争・戦争・環境破壊・分断・偏見などグローバルな課題は解決することなく広がっています。その中で、異なる価値観や文化背景を持つ人々が対話を重ね、共に想像し、表現することの重要性がかつてないほど高まっています。舞台芸術は、言語を超えた身体表現、疑似体験による他者の立場への共感力を有しており、社会や人間に深く作用する力を持っています。

本事業では、「劇場は命薬（ぬちぐすい）」をテーマに、演劇が持つ癒し、再生、共感、相互理解の力を活用し、多様な背景を持つアーティストたちが沖縄に集い、交流・対話・創作・発表を行うことで、演劇が人と人、人と社会、社会と世界をつなぐ場となることを目指します。

This project inherits the spirit of the 1970 Osaka World Exposition — "Progress and Harmony for Mankind" — and carries it into the present day. It is an international cultural exchange initiative that invites emerging artists from around the world (the Next Generation) to Okinawa, exploring the possibilities of international mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence through the medium of theatre.

In contemporary society, global challenges such as conflict, war, environmental destruction, division, and prejudice continue to spread without resolution. Against this backdrop, the importance of people from different cultural backgrounds and value systems engaging in dialogue, imagining together, and creating together has never been greater. The performing arts possess the power to transcend language through physical expression, and to cultivate empathy for others through lived, vicarious experience — a force that acts deeply upon both society and the human spirit.

Under the theme "Theater is Nuchigusui (Medicine for the Soul)", this project harnesses the healing, regenerative, empathetic, and connective power of theatre. Artists from diverse backgrounds gather in Okinawa to exchange ideas, engage in dialogue, create, and perform — with the vision of theatre becoming a space that connects people with people, people with society, and society with the world.

プログラム（Program）

次世代を担う若手アーティスト（ネクストジェネレーション）を日本に招聘し、演劇を通した国際文化交流・創作・対話・発表、地域の子どもたちや国内外の子どもたちとの交流会を開催します。また、平和と演劇の役割を考えるシンポジウムを2026年7月に沖縄県那覇市で開催します。

Emerging artists from around the world (the Next Generation) will be invited to Japan to participate in international cultural exchange, creative workshops, dialogue sessions, and performances through theatre. The program will also include exchange events bringing together local children and young people from both Japan and abroad. Additionally, a symposium exploring the role of theatre in peace will be held in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, in July 2026.
